The Story So Far...

Forches Regeneration Project

In April 2006 the Forches regeneration project was established by North Devon Homes Ltd, in partnership with North Devon & Exmoor Regeneration Company, Devon County Council, Government Office South West (GOSW), South West Regional Development Agency (SWeRDA) and North Devon District Council. North Devon Homes Ltd produced a successful bid to the Government for funding to help reduce social and economic exclusion within the Forches estate. The project will seek to find solutions to the following:

  • Restricted access to employment and work experience
  • Poor basic and vocational skills and access to training
  • A poor physical environment
  • Issues of crime and community safety
  • Restricted access to childcare and key services
  • Limited public transport
  • Issues of financial exclusion and a high dependency on sub-prime lenders
  • Limited opportunities for young people and the long term unemployed
  • Health and fuel poverty
  • Limited regeneration funds

One of North Devon District Council’s contributions to the project is the refurbishment of Whiddon Valley Community centre.
