Health and Housing in North Devon: Past and Present Symposium

On the 8th February 2025, between 10am and 4pm, join Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon at Barnstaple Guild Hall for a series of talks on Health and Housing in North Devon – as part of our Exhibition to celebrate the 25th anniversary of North Devon Homes.

Talks will be spread out during the day, with a break for lunch (not provided).

Talks include:

Mass Observation diaries of Barnstaple in the late 1930s with Professor Todd Gray (Author and Research Fellow of the University of Exeter as well as a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society)

Fevers and Fried Mice: Health and Healthcare in North Devon 1850 – 1900 with Liz Shakespear (Author and Historian)

Exmoor’s Victorian Poor – From Bread Tokens To Workhouses with Graeme Horn (Historian)

Housing the Poor: Alms Houses to Workhouses with Alison Mills (Museum Manager)

The future of North Devon Homes with Martyn Gimber (CEO of North Devon Homes)
